Group therapy can offer structured support, practical skills, and meaningful connection with others pursuing wellness and recovery. At STS, it is facilitated by qualified clinical professionals and tailored to the needs of the group and participants.

WHAT IS GROUP THERAPY?

Group therapy may involve guided discussion, psychoeducation, evidence-based interventions, and skills practice related to mental health, substance use, relationships, emotional regulation, and recovery. It may be offered as outpatient treatment or as part of intensive outpatient care.

BEFORE YOUR FIRST GROUP

Facilitators explain participation expectations, respectful communication, and confidentiality requirements. Group participants are expected to respect confidentiality and protect the privacy of others. However, a provider cannot guarantee that every participant will maintain confidentiality outside the group. Applicable legal and safety limitations should also be explained.

HOW GROUP THERAPY HELPS

Shared learning and structured therapeutic exercises may strengthen communication, coping skills, emotional regulation, relapse prevention, problem-solving, and interpersonal effectiveness. Participants do not need identical experiences to benefit.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?

A session may include check-ins, discussion of a therapeutic topic, guided activities, and reflection on applying skills in everyday life. A facilitator maintains therapeutic focus and a respectful environment. Comfort and participation may grow over time.

GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL SERVICES

When clinically appropriate, group therapy may complement individual counseling, psychiatric services, peer recovery support, and case management. Your care team can explain how recommended services fit together.

MAKING THE MOST OF GROUP

Attend consistently when possible, respect others’ privacy, communicate concerns to the facilitator, and practice new skills between sessions. Trust and confidence may develop gradually.

TAKING THE NEXT STEP

An individualized assessment can help determine whether group therapy or another service is appropriate. You do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone.

HEAL. GROW. THRIVE.
